Renishaw, the engineering technologies company, whose headquarters are based in Gloucestershire, UK, has been nominated by Cranfield School of Management for the Best Factory Awards 2012 which celebrate manufacturing excellence in the UK.

Renishaw's Woodchester facility in Gloucestershire has been nominated for the Best Factory Award, where the company designs, develops and assembles the components for a wide range of metrology products, including laser calibration devices for machine tools, encoders for precision position feedback and other manufacturing work for Renishaw's vast array of products.

At 15 000m2, and with 348 employees working in manufacturing roles at the site, Renishaw's Woodchester assembly plant is the largest of four assembly facilities within the Renishaw Group, and it operates within an environment of high innovation and constant change. This environment presents significant challenges to the group, with further challenges posed by the huge range of saleable parts which are produced in low volumes.

Gareth Hankins, Director of Group Manufacturing Services Division, spoke about the nomination: “We are very proud to have been recognised in this way. A lot of effort has gone in to making Renishaw's manufacturing site in Woodchester into the world class facility that it is today. It is a testament to the quality and motivation of our employees, who work at Woodchester, that we are nominated for the award.”

Editor of Works Management magazine Max Gosney said: "Well done to all the factories and their teams on the shortlist. The Best Factory Awards are notoriously tough with the judges turning over every last stone on the factory floor. You should be incredibly proud to have made it to the finals of the ultimate manufacturing awards."

Dr Marek Szwejczewski, Director of the Best Factory Awards commented: "All of the finalists are beacons of excellence, driven by the desire to improve and excel and are growing despite the flat British economy."

The Best Factory Awards 2012 are run by Cranfield School of Management with the magazine Works Management and sponsored by Toyota Material Handling UK, IOSH, Schaeffler, Zurich, EAL and Epicor. The winners will be announced at an awards luncheon in London on 28th September.
