Renishaw, the global engineering company, is collaborating with WEAF (West of England Aerospace Forum), to hold an “Additive Manufacturing Focus Day”, which will be held at Renishaw's New Mills headquarters in Gloucestershire on Thursday 28 November 2013. The event is targeted at companies involved with aerospace design and manufacture, and will include presentations by expert engineers on the latest manufacturing and metrology technologies.

By adopting additive manufacturing techniques, engineering companies are able to create complex parts that would not have been possible to machine using traditional subtractive technologies. Renishaw's laser melting systems are used in a range of industries where components with complex geometries are required to be lightweight yet strong, including the medical orthopaedics, motorsport and aerospace sectors.

The Additive Manufacturing Focus Day will feature presentations from Renishaw about its pioneering, digitally driven laser melting technology; from Altair about their optimal design software, which is ideal for additive manufacturing applications; and from BAE Systems, who use the additive process for product development.

Delegates will have the opportunity to ask the expert speakers about additive manufacturing techniques, and there will also be the opportunity to have a tour of Renishaw's New Mills facility. The delegates will come away with a new understanding of additive manufacturing and its applications in advanced engineering companies.
